Walter is one of the older members of the human rebel cell. He is very sick with cancer and it pains Doc to no end that he can do nothing for him. In Walter's last days, he begs for Wanderer to come to his side. She does and never leaves him. He often mistakes her for his deceased wife, Gladys, while his goes in and out of consciousness. The only thing Doc can do for him is to give him alcohol to dull the pain.
Eventually, Jared returns from a raid with enough morphine to euthanize Walter. Watching him die is very difficult for Wanderer and she, like Doc, wishes there was more that she could do to save him. She, unlike Melanie cared for Walter a lot more due to his kindness towards her. He was buried near the cave.
